Tip of the Week

Nestled midway to the summit of Mt. Hood is Timberline Lodge, a masterpiece of mountain lodges. The groundbreaking was held June 11, 1936, and construction of mammoth timbers and native stone began when the Federal Works Projects Administration hired unemployed craftspeople to build the lodge entirely by hand, inside and out. Timberline Lodge was then dedicated by President Franklin Roosevelt in September 1937, and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978.
