May 31, 2002, Newsletter Issue #32: Give Dad a Strawberry!

Tip of the Week

Life doesn`t get much better than this! Each year, volunteers serve up mounds of deliciously sweet strawberries from the mid-Willamette Valley fields and heap them over homemade shortcake and smother them with fresh whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. For those of you who are looking for directions to this strawberry paradise, here they are: Silverton is about 15 miles east of downtown Salem; 12 miles east of Interstate 5. Distance from Portland is about 42 miles. Traveling south from Portland, take Exit 360B - marked Chemawa - from I-5 and drive east to Silverton. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 2 to 8 years old ("kids" over 80 - FREE!) From 11 am to 6 pm.
