Two-time U.S. national figure skating champion, Tonya Harding, was born in Portland, Oregon in 1970. She is probably best remembered for her alleged involvement in the "whack heard around the world" on January 6, 1994, when Nancy Kerrigan was struck on the knee by Shane Stant. She denied any prior knowledge or involvement, but she was stripped of her national title and banned for life by the U.S.
